ProFecund in treating couple infertility
Couple infertility is a medical condition of particular importance due to its emotional, social and relational implications in both partners.
Regarded with some reluctance in the past, pro-fertility medications have slowly but surely entered the therapeutic arsenal of many doctors. Today, they can be divided into two categories, yet the distinction between them is often inconclusive. Thus, there are therapies that prepare the couple for conception, and specific pro fertility therapies, such as specialised assisted human reproduction techniques.
However, particularly when speaking of hypofertility (and not infertility per se), the preparatory medical management is often aimed at achieving a pregnancy.
Following the principle “first try the natural way, and then the medically-assisted one, if you didn’t get any results”, natural pro-fertility therapies now occupy a significant position among the options of future parents.
ProFecund has Vitex agnus castus and Maca as its main natural principles, and it supports hypofertile couples by bringing both plants together in a single capsule, thus facilitating its administration. Besides, the synergic effect of the two components noticeably enhances the quality of the endometrium and oocytes.
Looking back at the female hypofertility (infertility) phenomenon, the prevalence of its triggering causes has changed over the years. Thus, while during the era of “medical” obscurity when it came to contraception, infectious causes prevailed, nowadays, the reasons for not conceiving are mostly related to delicate hormonal imbalances mainly due to the lifestyle typical of today’s society.
Often asymptomatic and undetectable upon investigations, the endocrine disorders of the hypothalamic pituitary ovarian axis lead to endometrial hypotrophies, low quality ovulation, immature oocytes in mid-cycle and inadequate progesterone secretion during the early and late luteal phase.
The central-pituitary regulation of hormonal secretion is the basis of the natural treatment applied to functional origin hypofertility.
Maca (Lepidium meyenii) has a vital role in this endocrine regulation. As it is not a hormonal product, but a hormonal regulator, its use cannot therefore create any imbalance of that axis. Maca has minerals and phytonutrients that help restore the hormonal balance at the upper central level, while the adrenal and thyroid gland secretions are also involved in that regulation. Additionally, Maca improves the physical state, self esteem and mental clarity, essential elements for the optimism that should characterise women during fertility treatments.
Maca is a natural product indispensable for the follicular period of the ovarian cycle, acting on two important aspects: endometrium growth and oocyte development/maturation.
Aside from Maca, Vitex agnus castus also acts through a fine hormonal regulation mechanism (it is not a hormone per se either) at central level, but the mechanism is different (although synergic). Thus, Vitex has an important role to play in the LH peak at mid-cycle, leading to a decrease in FSH levels and an increase in the production of progesterone, a hormone required for maintaining pregnancy. Thus, the formation of the corpus luteum is stimulated and miscarriage is prevented.
I used ProFecund both during the preparatory period for a natural pregnancy and prior to an assisted human reproduction technique. After 3 months of use, the rate of achieving a natural pregnancy increased in patients with infertility lasting for more than 3 years. In IVF treatments, the results were easier to quantify, particularly in the persons who had undergone this assisted reproduction technique in the past, but also after preparatory ProFecund treatment. Thus, in the case of patients with low oocyte quality during the preovulatory sampling before the ProFecund treatment, an increase in the oocyte quality and maturation rate was noticed after using a combination of Maca and Vitex (ProFecund). The pregnancy rate after IVF + ProFecund was higher than the pregnancy rate obtained after IVF alone.
With respect to male hypofertility, the main component of ProFecund B, Maca, along with coenzyme Q10, zinc and selenium, led to an increase in both the valid sperm count and their motility. These are the main elements to consider, particularly when attempting to achieve pregnancy naturally.
Complex products that bring together well-known, researched and scientifically dosed natural components, ProFecund and ProFecund B open up a new path and opportunity for the delicate treatment of couple hypofertility.
